Why give money to the church? Because:
- It’s “the right thing to do”?
- A good tax write-off?
- God needs it?
- The church expects it?
Before explaining what to write on your check or how to give online, it’s far more important that you know why we encourage you to give to God by giving to the church. To put it simply, it’s what God says to do (Deut 15:10; Psalm 37:21). He tells us in the Bible that He wants us to give regularly (Romans 12:8), generously (Acts 10:2), and sacrificially out of all He gives us — all as part of our worship of Him (1 Tim 6:18).
Not because God needs what we have. But because we need to give it. What we do with what we have directs our heart. Giving to God reminds us that He has given us everything we have, and can be counted on to meet every need we will ever have. Giving something back to Him is an expression of gratitude and worship.
How do I give at COC?
An offering is taken at each of our Sunday services. Our new contribution processing software is able to take the information directly from your check and match the giving with your household. Alternatively you can use our offering envelopes.
If you would like your contribution or a portion of your contribution designated to a certain fund, please list the fund and the amount desired in the memo line of the check. When no specific designation is given, all funds are designated to the General Tithe Fund.
Loose cash gifts are considered anonymous donations and are designated to the General Tithe Fund. Offering envelopes are enclosed in the Sunday service program and can be used to designate a fund.
Online Credit Card Offering
You may set up one-time or recurring contributions from a credit card. Choose to have the contributions withdrawn from your account weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly. Simply click on the “Sign In” link on the giving page. Follow the steps to create a new account or access your account if you have already created one. You may manage your giving through this online system anytime.
Why give online?
It keeps first things first.
The Bible indicates giving is to be a “first” and not a last or leftover matter in my life. Read Proverbs 3:9-10. It is easy to let our intentions be compromised by the pressure of expenses and billing cycles.
Have you ever forgotten your gift, left it at home or pledged to double it in the future? Have you had times where you have fallen behind because of travel or other schedule interruptions? Online giving provides a way to stay up to date with your budget.
Through online giving, you expedite your gift, simplify our accounting, and strengthen our base of regular support.
We use an online database called Fellowship One. Their system allows us to provide access to your contribution records and allows you to make donations online. They provide all of the security for the system. This system is used by churches throughout the country and has been fully tested by them.
There are two aspects of security related to the system. First, Fellowship One provides data security using the latest security technology. The following statement is from their security documentation: “F1 utilizes the most current encryption technology to maintain the security of your data. Every parameter passed in the hyperlinks is fully encrypted. Additionally, the Login module handles passwords using what is known in technical terms as salted hash. In laymen’s terms, this means it would take 50 computers (running constantly) continuously presenting password combinations four years to discover the password.”
The second aspect of security relates to account creation. When you first create a new account in the system, you will be able to donate immediately, but you will not have access to any previous contribution information. Before that can happen, we must manually link your previous information to the account you created.
In order to verify the authenticity of the account request, we will ensure that all of your data matches our current records (e.g., address, phone number, and email address). If there is any question, we will contact you via email before creating the link. Since this is a manual process, we will perform these steps approximately once a week, but if you would like to speed up this process, you can send an email to
When you create your account, you will determine your own login id and password. If you forget your login id or password, you can have the system email it to you by entering the email address that you used when you created your account. If you need help or cannot remember the email address you used, you can contact us at You can also change your password at any time.
Please help us keep your information safe by protecting your login information. Access to sensitive personal and financial information can be gained by letting someone else use your account or by leaving the information for someone else to see.
Your information is held securely by the Fellowship One system. This information will remain private and will never be given away to third parties, other than to process your scheduled contributions.
You can schedule new contributions at any time and can modify or cancel those contributions at any time prior to the date they are scheduled. Once the contribution has been processed, however, it cannot be cancelled. If you have any problems or questions related to this, please contact us at .
