In many ways... the old time HYMNS are the Oral History of our Faith! Just like the Psalms in Scripture - they have been passed from generation to generation and sung in Cathedrals and Chapels... (And for many of us...) around a Family Piano! They are rich with Truth/Promise from Scripture - so we’ve started taking a few weeks here at COC to talk about a few of those famous songs in a series we're calling "HYMNS" -- We've started diving into a few of those Classic Hymns to explore their meaning filled with HOPE and hopefully illuminating the HOPE they still have for us today! Praying you’ll consider joining us the Last Week…
Sunday Snapshot… (4) IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL
Psalm 34:18… The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
IN MIDDLE OF WHATEVER PAIN YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF IN… (Never Forget!) GOD IS STILL PRESENT!
When peace like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say... it is well, it is well, with my soul! (Horatio Spafford)
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, it is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, oh my soul! (Horatio Spafford)
And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, even so, it is well with my soul! (Horatio Spafford)
The Words of the Famous Hymn "It Is Well With My Soul" - were not words of Deep Anguish and Question… they were words of GREAT HOPE and EXPECTATION of what GOD WAS GOING TO DO… in the middle of the DARKNESS!
