SUNDAY SNAPSHOT (SPLIT - 1)

The Bible is so good about using EXAMPLES! (I mean…) The Scriptures never seem to gloss over any of its character’s errors… and it never pretends that the heroes are perfect! Their failures are very openly and honestly documented… and the tremendous treasure in that - is to see how God always finds a way of taking imperfect people - who are totally committed to Him - and uses them in a great way! (And…) DAVID seems to be one of the Perfect Examples of ALL that I’m talking about! There were many moments is David’s Life when he was dead ON… however there were also moments in David’s life when he was way OFF! (Sound like anyone familiar?!) In some ways… it was like David suffered from some sort of “SPLIT” Christian Personality Disorder! (So…) Since David is probably like so many of us… we thought we would take a few weeks to TALK about a few of his ON moments and some of his OFF moments - and see if we can’t learn a few things to apply to our lives! Please consider joining us the next Five Weeks as we start a New Series here at COC called “SPLIT” – it’s bound to be enlightening!

Sunday Snapshot… (1) RELUCTANT HERO

God doesn’t so much look at WHAT we are doing… but rather at HOW we are doing it!

GREATNESS is not doing One Great Thing in a Big Way… but in doing Every Little Thing in a Great Way!

Great People do CONSISTENTLY what others only do OCCASIONALLY! (i.e.) A Crown Doesn’t Make A Man A King… It Only Identifies The King In The Man!

OBEDIENCE is always better than SACRIFICE! (God is not looking for hearts that are perfect… He’s looking for hearts that are striving to do His will!)

SERVICE is nothing more than HUMILITY IN PRACTICE!

INTEGRITY is WHO YOU ARE and WHAT YOU’RE DOINGWHEN NO ONE ELSE IS LOOKING!

SUNDAY SNAPSHOT (HYMNS - 4)

main image

In many ways... the old time HYMNS are the Oral History of our Faith! Just like the Psalms in Scripture - they have been passed from generation to generation and sung in Cathedrals and Chapels... (And for many of us...) around a Family Piano! They are rich with Truth/Promise from Scripture - so we’ve started taking a few weeks here at COC to talk about a few of those famous songs in a series we're calling "HYMNS" -- We've started diving into a few of those Classic Hymns to explore their meaning filled with HOPE and hopefully illuminating the HOPE they still have for us today! Praying you’ll consider joining us the Last Week

Sunday Snapshot… (4) IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL

Psalm 34:18… The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

IN MIDDLE OF WHATEVER PAIN YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF IN… (Never Forget!) GOD IS STILL PRESENT!

When peace like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say... it is well, it is well, with my soul! (Horatio Spafford)

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, it is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, oh my soul! (Horatio Spafford)

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, even so, it is well with my soul! (Horatio Spafford)

The Words of the Famous Hymn "It Is Well With My Soul" - were not words of Deep Anguish and Question… they were words of GREAT HOPE and EXPECTATION of what GOD WAS GOING TO DO… in the middle of the DARKNESS!
